We Can Watch The Stars Come Out

September 1, 2009

September has begun and things still don’t seem to be organized yet. But that’s besides the point right now.

Here’s the point. The Scottish electronic musician/DJ, Calvin Harris (formerly known as Adam Wiles), released his second album, Ready For The Weekend, in August. I wasn’t really into this album as much as I was into I Created Disco (2007) but “Stars Come Out” is a good one and makes me want to go to the dance club asap. This song has given me the desire to dance like a lunatic again.

Never miss a beat

September 24, 2008

As I was mindlessly researching for a mandatory course, I was listening to Cut Copy’s remix of The Kaiser Chiefs – Never Miss a Beat. After about four minutes into the song, I had an unavoidable urge to start dancing in my computer chair. I thought, “that was pretty sweet” then continued on with my research. The playlist was on repeat so when it came to that song a second time, I found myself unintentionally dancing in my chair again. That’s when I knew; I must write about this remix.

This remix starts off pretty good but it doesn’t get amazing until it hits around four minutes. As you can see from my previous statements, that’s when the real dancing gets started. It’s almost like:

You’re sitting in a chair at a dance party. You don’t know anyone at this party and you’re shy. You’re just there because you are (no questions). You’re grooving to the song wishing you had someone to dance with just because you wanna dance! Then all of a sudden, this excited, animated person grabs you out of your chair and starts dancing with you. You guys have this unprepared, synchronized dance routine that surprisingly works perfectly. And the rest of the night goes down in dance history.

That is, this song in a nutshell.

Let’s dance!

August 13, 2008

One thing that the east kind of lacked was: dancing!

And I missed it extremely. Over in Vancouver, I would say there are a lot of places to dance. Most of these places are full of drunk people…or pot heads (depending on where you go *cough* the Astoria *cough*), but it doesn’t matter because you can just dance as crazy as you want and still look cooler than the hammered person beside you.

The Ting Tings – Great DJ (Calvin Harris Remix)
Lykke Li – Dance dance dance
Bruce Springsteen – Dancing in the dark

Dancing, don’t you ever leave me again!

houseRAVE

July 6, 2008

So some guys I know decided to throw a house rave. Why? Because our generation was too young to attend/comprehend raves when they were popular. I think this was a great idea and it was a soberly amazing event (the soberly part does not refer to all). Unfortunately, it was on residence at SFU and was practically “crashed” at 1am. But despite this, it still was a great dancing event with great music, bright lights, smoke, and Barbarella.

Chemical Brothers feat. the Klaxons – All Rights Reversed
MGMT – Electric Feel (Justice Remix)
Cut Copy – Hearts on Fire (Polygon Palace Remix)
Wolfmother – Woman (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Justice – D.A.N.C.E. (MSTRKRFT Remix)
Daft Punk – Technologic (Rogerseventytwo Remix)
Muse vs. The Klaxons – Supermassive Rainbow
Jamiroquai – Canned Heat (video)
