Dis-moi ce que tu pense…

September 7, 2009

Boys Noize did a “Euro remix” of his original remix of Sébastien Tellier‘s “L’amour et la violence”. I love the original and the Boys Noize original remix as well. Though, after listening to the original BN remix, I kind of wished that the Boys Noize remix had a heavier beat so it could be played in a dance club.
The original BN remix has a slow beat. It takes the electronic ending of the original and stretches it out throughout the entire remix, which is really nice considering that is the peak of the original song. But it isn’t fast enough for a club.
I saw that there was a “Boys Noize Euro remix” of “L’amour et la violence” about a week or so ago. I quickly became intrigued and realized that Boys Noize granted me my previous wish of this song.

Boys Noize is coming to Vancouver on November 6. He’ll be playing at Celebrities, which isn’t my most favourite venue but in the case of seeing Boys Noize live, it will have to do.

Je t’aime, Sébastien Tellier

And I also really like Hypnolove for remixing “Fingers of Steel” so wonderfully.

Both artists are from France and specialize in romantic, sexual beats. This isn’t the first time Hypnolove has remixed Tellier. They also remixed “La Ritournelle”, which isn’t as good as the remix of “Fingers of Steel” but is still decent. Check out my preferred remix below.

Monsieur Tellier à Vancouver

April 15, 2009

Last night, two-thirds of the Brooklyn band, Chairlift, opened up for Sébastien Tellier. Unfortunately, their guitarist got held up at the border. So the band compensated by splitting their set in half with covers and original stuff. They played Chris Isaack’s “Wicked Game”, Snoop Dogg’s “Sensual Seduction” (which was fairly well-done in my opinion) and other great hits. Considering they were missing a band member, Chairlift did a good job making up for it and keeping the crowd somewhat entertained before Sébastien Tellier came on.

Mr. Tellier started his set with “Kilometer”, which got some people moving. Not many people in the crowd were grooving to the music. Everyone was just watching him. Maybe it’s his successfully marketed image or his unique persona that captivates people and puts them in a state of awe. Though, I was kind of surprised at the lack of people that were there. I thought this show would’ve been sold out but it really didn’t look like it was. Apparently, his fan base needs to grow a little more in Vancouver.

Throughout the concert, Sébastien Tellier was drinking a bottle of white wine to himself. He spoke in between songs about…I don’t really know what. His accent was either too strong or I just couldn’t hear very well. By the end of the show, he was lying on his keyboard and after the encore he was standing on it. I also think it’s important to mention the dry guitar humping that took place.

Most of the songs he performed were from the latest album, Sexuality. But of course, he played his most popular song, “La Ritournelle”, which I’ve been listening to on repeat the whole morning. “L’amour et la violence” and “Sexual Sportswear” were probably my two favourite songs that were performed. I also really liked how the originally four minute song, “Une Heure”, was stretched out to a ten minute song.

I would say the entirety of this concert was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed every song that was played and his eccentric characteristics that attributed each song. However, I was a little nervous at how intoxicated he seemed to be. I thought maybe he wouldn’t be able to perform as well but thankfully, I was wrong.

L’amour et la violence, encore

April 3, 2009

“Sucrée-groovée”
After exploring a number of musical genres, the Parisian artist/producer, Allure, has decided to stick to electro. He has been working on a new album that should be released any time soon this Spring.

His remix of Sébastien Tellier’s “L’amour et la violence” is great because it can be played on a dance floor! The original and the Boys Noize remix are both beautiful but can’t really be played on the dance floor because they are too slow and somewhat sad. This remix, however, can get your body moving.

Divine Remix

March 6, 2009

Sébastien Tellier’s “Divine” is such a euphoric song that I can’t handle it seriously on the dance floor. Not saying it’s bad to hear when I’m out, but I’m usually into the really hcore beats when I’m busting some moves. The French DJ, Danger, has remixed it to my serious dancing standards. Srsly, if you like dancing really crazy, check it out.

Love is to share

“La Ritournelle” – a musical refrain that is regularly repeated throughout a song.

I’m going to give it to Tellier, he can come up with some pretty heart-breaking piano ballads; “La Ritournelle” being one of them. This song comes from his third album, Sessions (2006). It’s a long song which is a good thing; decent songs these days are too short, in my opinion.

And once again, Metronomy has proved to me that they can remix exceptionally well. This remix is good for when you’re not feeling the romance and you just wanna bust some funky moves. I also owe the discovery of this remix to my good friend, M-ilicious. Shout out!

Back to Tellier, he WAS coming to Vancouver this year. According to his Myspace page, he was supposed to be coming to Richard’s on April 14. I don’t know why it was removed though.

Kilometer

December 5, 2008

You know a song’s good when you don’t notice the girl moaning in the background…

I actually didn’t notice the background moaning until the second time I listened to this remix. Surprisingly, I didn’t mind it. Usually I don’t like songs with sexual moaning in them but this one is different. Maybe it’s because this remix is so good. Moulinex did a really good job of hyper-sexualizing this already sexual Sébastien Tellier song. I’ve listened to it on repeat all day today. I canNOT stop.
