Therapy with Electrelane

February 26, 2010

To be honest, I’m at a loss of words at the moment so this post won’t be very long. I feel disoriented from the chaotic, surreal environment downtown. This isn’t Vancouver and it’s weird because I’m not on vacation.

The one song that has given me some comfort in the past week is a song by a band that doesn’t exist anymore. I kept forgetting I had this song on my playlist but once it came on, it would instantly relax me, and still does. The band’s name was Electrelane (from the UK) and the song is called “In Berlin.”

This song is very soft with a superb keyboard melody.

Busking For Change Concert in Vancouver

December 17, 2009

The Vancouver band Elias is putting on a daylong concert tomorrow (Friday, Dec 18th). The concert will run from 10am – 6pm outside of Library Square, in three set-up stages. Elias will be playing with other local Vancouver bands, Said the Whale, Adaline and We Are The City.

Elias has been running the “Give me truth” campaign, which is dedicated to helping War Child. War Child is a charity that helps war-affected children. Elias has a “Give me truth” petition online and if you sign it, you will receive a free download package that contains two songs and a video.

The main purpose of the Busking For Change concert is to raise money for the War Child charity. It’s a great purpose and it’s a cool location. I really wish I could attend but I’m away in Seattle right now. Hopefully the weather holds up for the concert.

If you’re interested in going, there is the full schedule of who’s playing at what time on Facebook.

Let’s dance!

August 13, 2008

One thing that the east kind of lacked was: dancing!

And I missed it extremely. Over in Vancouver, I would say there are a lot of places to dance. Most of these places are full of drunk people…or pot heads (depending on where you go *cough* the Astoria *cough*), but it doesn’t matter because you can just dance as crazy as you want and still look cooler than the hammered person beside you.

The Ting Tings – Great DJ (Calvin Harris Remix)
Lykke Li – Dance dance dance
Bruce Springsteen – Dancing in the dark

Dancing, don’t you ever leave me again!

Bienvenue à Vancouver

June 17, 2008

It’s 10 am and the weather does not look promising. It was nice yesterday too…so to wake up to a wet ground and an overcast is a little annoying. But we live in Vancouver, what do we expect?

I just checked out the Weather Network and apparently it’s going to get nicer. The weather is pretty unreliable sometimes. It could be worse though. When I was in Quebec (La Pocatière), the weather was extremely bipolar and gross. So really, we don’t have it that bad. Yes, we have our days of non-stop rain but that is why we have songs like these:

Gene Kelly – Singin’ in the Rain

Mint Royale – Singin’ in the Rain <– This song seems to be no longer available for download but here is the youtube video. All I'm going to say is: I love dance-offs.

Also, they used the remix in a VW commercial and digitally “updated” the old movie footage to the song. This is a pretty awesome commercial in my opinion.

Please enjoy all of it.
